A striking pair of 19th century drop earrings, probably c. 1870, each modelled with exotic birds perched amidst leaves and supending three oval graduated cabochons, in tri-colour (unmarked) yellow metal, the cabochons possibly foil backed, purple, green and pink, in a period morocco fitted case, hinged hook fittings, (one earring detached from the top section but without loss). NOTE: the earrings have been surface tested by the Edinburgh Assay Office - front and back - testing as gold in various grades ranging from 377/100 (on the back of a repaired/replaced cabochon) to high carat, c. 900/1000, in most places.
