On the face of it, this would appear to be a fairly mainstream group of medals, however, it is in fact a unique group owing to the recipient being the only holder of three bars to a Long Service medal which no other member of the Observer Corps ever received. Without the extra bar the medals would have been worth around £300, however the confirmation that he was entitled to these bars drove the final hammer price to £4,600. With all medals the addition of any ephemera allows collectors more avenues of research and offers a more complete story behind the recipient and can add substantially to the value. Dickie is always available in the saleroom and is delighted to offer appraisals or advice on any items of militaria.
